Villa Mentari is the largest private villa within the prestigious Blue Karma resort in the well-heeled town of Seminyak; a glittering jewel in the crown of luxurious Balinese retreat-style holidaying. It offers natural opulence within a majestic, tranquil setting. Infused with traditional touches, guests will enter a veritable oasis of fragrant and verdant seclusion where indoor and outdoor living fuse seamlessly.
Five double bedrooms are tastefully finished in antique timber, with private bathrooms offering a semi open-air feel – imagine taking a refreshing post-beach shower or a relaxing bath surrounded by the tropical plant life and rich vegetation!
Totalling over three thousand square meters of fern trees and “timor” statues; entirely constructed with local, organic and traditional materials – guests will enjoy authentic Balinese style living while every comfort is provided.
Traditional Balinese buildings seek to harmonise with the environment: they are built almost entirely of organic materials, using bamboo, teak, coconut wood, thatch and stone – Balinese people are known for their artistry. The result is a centuries-old style of design that’s heavily influenced by Bali’s Hindu traditions, as well as ancient Javanese elements.
Set spaciously apart yet together, the “villa” is made up of a series of “joglos” (separate pavilions which are unique to the island.) The living spaces offer a relaxed, “open plan” living, divided into large, sociable spaces and quiet corners for privacy and downtime. Constructed in natural tones, teak and stone – staying here is a sensory journey! Lovingly and expertly designed by its American artist-photographer-jeweller owner, every little extra touch of care has been provided.
The bedrooms are stunningly elegant, meticulously finished with ambient lighting, crisp quality bedlinen, wicker chairs and writing desk-cum-coffee tables. Groups of friends or couples/ families will enjoy holidaying with ample group potential as well as privacy for a truly relaxing experience. Designed with sumptuous proportions, four-poster beds and solid wood furnishings with traditional artwork, mystical statues and natural materials, design enthusiasts will enjoy this aesthetic haven of understated luxury.
The sense of the outdoors is always present: large veranda style interludes between indoors and outdoors, and floor to ceiling glass partitions, the central pond with its water lilies and incredible private pool in natural stone which gives the water a wonderful turquoise tone. Surrounded by enormous day beds and palm trees, guests will enjoy hours of relaxation by the pool, and can enjoy the ultimate liberation of an outdoor post-swim shower, or open-air stone bath!
The large salon has ornate, oriental features; a melange of colourful cushions facing the “garden of the gods;” it is peppered with the owner’s paintings and ethnic ornaments for contemporary yet authentic Balinese atmosphere.
The resort offers candlelit poolside dinners, spa treatments and wellness such as yoga and meditation, as well as rice paddy walks and classes on ancestral remedies. The owner is passionate about fragrance and how this conjures a sense of place and atmosphere, which is reflected in the custom-designed spa products and bathroom ranges.
The “joglo” tea-time bar is where guests will be able to enjoy a game of chess, peruse the library or kick back in the television corner. While the “joglo” dining room will come alive at breakfast with an array of seasonal tropical fruit from the “Pasar” (market).
